Is
any one of you in trouble? He should pray.
Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise.
Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the
church
to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.
And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person
well;
the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each
other
so that you may be healed.
The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
James
5: 13-20
Every
Wednesday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. a group of ordinary,
everyday people meet for prayer meeting. There is
no service; it is not led by the
Pastor or a deacon. What do they do, then? As the name
suggests, they meet and pray!
Is
any one of you in trouble? We
pray for you. Is
anyone happy? We
rejoice with you and
offer prayers of joy and thanksgiving for you. Is
any one of you sick?
We pray for you.
If
he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your
sins to each other .... We
have all sinned and we pray for forgiveness.
Each
week we meet in the conference room. We write our prayer
requests on an index card; things that are bothering us; people who
are dear to us; whatever is on our hearts to pray about. You say you
have concerns but you don't want to write down the specifics?
That's fine, simply write "Unspoken". Then we join
hands to pray. You say you don't pray aloud? No problem,
there are several of us who don't. Pray silently and squeeze the
next person's hand when you are through.
....and
pray for each other so that you may be healed. We
take all the cards, put them in the middle of the table and draw one
out, but not our own. We turn our prayer
concerns over to someone else, and we take over someone else's
concerns. We do not pray for ourselves.....we
pray for each other. We continue to pray for each
other by
praying for what is on our cards throughout the week. Our
burdens are lifted because we are not focusing on ourselves, but on
our brothers and sisters in Christ.
The prayer of a righteous man is
powerful and effective. Absolutely.
What an overwhelming
joy is answered prayer! |
